Asia on Top of the Twitter World
Asia surpassed North America as the biggest user of Twitter. This is the result of a recent geological study of 2.9 million tweets undertaken by Semiocast, a micro-messaging company in France.
Major Asian contributors are Japan, Indonesia and South Korea, which contribute about 37% of the total tweets in the micro-blogging site. The study also revealed that the USA, despite of being the first twitter nation, contributed just about 25% of the total tweets, which is 5% lower than what it was in March 2010.
Compared to the results of the study four months ago this shows that Asia is now the first and fastest growing region. The share of tweets of the continent is divided into the following: Asia- 37%, North America- 31%, South America- 15%, Europe- 14%, Africa- 1.5% and Oceania- 1.5%. Looking at the Asia region the results of the study show that Japan is leading this trend followed by Indonesia, South Korea and India. They also underline the need of multilingual analytics for Twitter messages.
